General Coin Information
With a design that has captivated collector's around the world, the Royal Australian Mint has introduced the 2009 $1 Kangaroo at Sunset F12 Privy 1oz Silver Coin. The Kangaroo at Sunset first appeared in a gold version in 2007, and has been quick to sell out each year.
The simplistic roo reflection designed by Poland born sculptor Wojciech Pietranik was even nominated for Krause Publications People's Choice Coin of the Year.
Considered one of the best silver coins available today, it was included as part of the Fabulous Twelve Silver Collection which also includes such notables as the Silver Canadian Maple Leaf and the American Eagle. A special F12 privy mark is inscribed on the reverse to showcase the honor.
A beautiful display case accompanies the proof coin along with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
Obverse Design
Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is portrayed on the obverse. The inscriptions "Elizabeth II", "2009", "Australia" and "1 Dollar" are also seen.
Reverse Design
A single kangaroo poised to hop is featured against the outback horizon at dusk. This iconic animal of Australia is to the right of the waning sun, creating a reflective shadow of the roo in the ground. Just below the horizon is the F12 privy mark.
