General Coin Information

Taking inspiration from traditional Aboriginal art, Darryl Bellotti has created multiple designs of Australian wildlife, landscape and culture. Some of these designs are now featured in the Perth Mint's new Discover Australia series, including the Discover Australia 2009 Dreaming Kangaroo 1oz Silver Coin.

The Kangaroo coin is one of five coins available this year as part of the Discover Australia set. Five new coins will be available next year, and an additional five in 2011. All 15 showcase a different Australian animal with Bellotti's unique artistic twist.

Bellotti describes his contemporary style with a traditional background:

“I am an Indigenous person of Australia, but I'm also modern in the way that I can create artwork on the computer."

The silver Dreaming Kangaroo coin designed by Bellotti will ship in an presentation case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

Obverse Design

Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is portrayed on the obverse. The inscriptions "Elizabeth II", "Australia" and "1 Dollar" are also seen.

Reverse Design

Darryl Bellotti's contemporary image of a hopping kangaroo is featured on the reverse. A colored representation of the landscape is seen behind the kangaroo. The inscriptions "Discover Australia", "2009", "Kangaroo", "1 oz" and "999 Silver" are also present.
