General Coin Information
The United States Mint released the Anna Harrison First Spouse Gold Coin in uncirculated condition on March 5, 2009. This is the ninth in the First Spouse Gold Coin series authorized by congress as part of the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005.
Anna was born in 1775 to a relatively prosperous family in New Jersey. Her early years were spent receiving an excellent education which was uncommon at the time for young girls. Once of adult age, Anna joined her father in the frontier regions of the United States. It was here that she met William Henry Harrison and married him.
William was an accomplished soldier, but sooned turned his sites on the political realm. He served many posts, among them Secretary of the Northwest Territory and Governor of the Indiana Territory. Political ambition did not prevent their marriage from being a fruitful one and ten children would be born to them. It is believed that all of these births did make an impact on Anna's health.
Election to President of the United States in 1840 found William and Anna seperated due to her health, and William attended his inauguration without her. Less than a month after this, as Anna was preparing to join him, she was notified that he had passed away from complications of pneumonia.

Obverse Design
A portrait of Anna Harrison is depicted on the obverse side of the coin. It was designed by Donna Weaver and sculpted by Joseph Menna. Also inscribed are the words "ANNA HARRISON", "IN GOD WE TRUST", "LIBERTY", "2009", "9th 1841", and the mintmark "W".
Reverse Design
Designed by Thomas Cleveland and sculpted by Charles Vickers, the reverse portrays Anna and her love of teaching with her students. Included as well are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "$10", "1/2 OZ.", and ".9999 PURE GOLD".
