Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coin – Uncirculated
General Coin Information
The 10th coin in a series of presidential spouse coins was released on July 2, 2009 by the United States Mint. The Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coin in uncirculated condition is offered in 24 carat gold for discerning collectors.
Suffering the effects of a stroke from a few years earlier, Letitia was unable to perform the ceremonial duties normally required of a first lady when her husband assumed the Presidency. She was extremely capable, however, of running the household, insuring a smooth operating White House for her husband to entertain at.
Letitia only made on official public appearance while first lady. This occurred in 1842 at the wedding of her daughter. Only a few months later, Letitia suffered another stroke and passed away peacefully that September. She would be the first spouse to die while her husband was still in office.
Also available is the Letitia Tyler Coin proof version.
