October 1, 2009 is scheduled as the release date for the much anticipated 2009 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set from the US Mint. This set will contain a whopping 36 coins, 18 of those from the Mint in Denver and 18 from the Mint in Philadelphia.
The complete set will sell for $27.95 plus shipping and handling, which is $5 more than last years uncirculated set sold for. Of course, this year 8 more coins will be included, which accounts for the price difference.
Each coin struck on specially burnished blanks will feature a satin-like finish which first was introduced in the mint sets in 2005.
Also of interest is the fact that the Lincoln cents included in the collection will be struck from a special alloy of 95% copper, 3% zinc and 2% which is the same composition that was used on the Lincoln pennies when they were first introduced in 1909. Today's pennies utilize a 97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper blend.
The coins that will be a part of this unique collection are listed below. Remember, you will get two versions of each coin, one from the Mint at Philadelphia and one from the Mint at Denver. For your convenience, we have also linked some of them to the individual coin pages we have here on World Mint Coins.

Those that are interested in purchasing the 2009 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set may do so beginning October 1st from the US Mint website: http://www.usmint.gov/ or by calling their toll-free number: 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). The Mint is also offering a subscription program for the uncirculated sets, so those wanting to may sign up now to automatically receive the set once it is available.
Many may recall the 2008 Mint Set had an incredibly low number of sets sold, under 750,000. The last time this number was under 800,000 was in 1963. Even the 1984 Set, which seems to command a premium, had over 840,000 sets produced. Time will tell if this years set will catch the collector's eye, or be overlooked as well.
