2010 Seahorse 1/2 Oz Silver Proof Coin
General Coin Information
Appearing as the fourth of five installments from the Perth Mint, as part of their "Australian Sea Life Series - The Reef" is the Seahorse 1/2 Silver Proof Coin.
The seahorse is a bit of an oddity for creatures of the water. With an equine shape, one would almost foresee an awkward moving as they propelled themselves through the water, but that is not the case. They prove to be very graceful.
This series of coins have proven to be popular among both coin collectors and wildlife enthusiasts for their beautiful colored portrayal of the creatures found in the famed reefs off of Australia's shores. A limited mintage of only 10,000 per coin also adds to its desirability.
Preceding the Seahorse coins were the 2009 Lionfish coin (which has already sold out), the 2009 Leafy Sea Dragon coin and the 2010 Clownfish coin which was released only a few months before this coin. Only one more coin is planned in the series and will showcase the Moray Eel.
Struck from 1/2 ounce of 99.9% pure silver, these coins have an uncharacteristically large diameter of 36mm. Each coin will ship in a presentation box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity all included in an illustrated shipper.
If available, this silver proof coin may be purchased online from the following Perth Mint page:
