General Coin Information
The Abigail Fillmore First Spouse Gold Coin in uncirculated condition marks the fourteenth coin available in the First Spouse series from the US Mint. Each coin is struck from 1/2 ounce of 24-karat gold.
Raised in the frontier area, Abigail received an excellent education with the help of her deceased father's collection of books. With reading a passion, Abigail continued her studies and eventually became a school teacher.
She met Millard Fillmore at age 21, but did not marry him for several years as he pursued his career as a lawyer and politician. Finally, the two married and Abigail continued to teach as she gave birth to their two children.
Having worked his way up the political world, Millard was elected Vice President of the United States, only to assume the Presidency 16 months later when the sitting President passed away. With the Fillmore's now in the White House, Abigail let most of the social duties fall to her daughter, while she stayed in the residence reading and listening to music. It was during this time that Abigail established the White House library.
The Abigail Fillmore coin is also available in a proof version.
