Golden Hind 1 Oz Silver Proof Coin
General Coin Information
The Perth Mint's second strike in its popular Ships That Changed the World Series has been released and is known as the Golden Hind 1 Oz Silver Proof Coin. The strike depicts the English galleon renamed by Sir Francis Drake for his voyage through the Strait of Magellan on the tip of South America.
His expedition was to explore the coast that lied beyond the Strait for the English Crown. However, he was also given a secondary purpose by the Queen to capture as much Spanish treasure as possible. His mission was a success and he returned to England to be knighted by the Queen.
The first strike in the series depicted the Santa Maria. This Golden Hind Coin will be followed by strikes showing the famous ships Mayflower, Constitution and Cutty Sark.
