Beginning tomorrow, December 4, 2012, the 2012 Denali National Park America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set™ will be available from the United States Mint. The set will be offered at a price of $9.95, plus the US Mint's standard shipping and handing charge of $4.95 per order.
Included as part of the set are three different versions of the Denali National Park Quarter. This includes an uncirculated quality Denali Quarter from the United States Mint at Philadelphia, an uncirculated quality Denali Quarter from the United States Mint at Denver and a proof quality Denali Quarter from the United States Mint at San Francisco.
All three coins are presented together on a durable plastic card containing a picturesque image of the national park honored by the included coins. Also shown on the card is a brief description of the park and the coin design along with a Certificate of Authenticity.
The Denali National Park Quarter is offered by the US Mint as the fifth of five 2012-dated America the Beautiful Quarters issued in the series. The program itself debuted in 2010 and features five new releases annually, each depicting a different site of national interest from around the United States and its territories.
Shown on the reverse of the Denali Quarter is a design emblematic of Denali National Park and Preserve of Alaska. The design is described by the US Mint with:
The Denali Quarter... "depicts a Dall sheep with Mount McKinley rising in the background. Inscriptions are DENALI, ALASKA, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse was designed by AIP Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz."
All coins issued in the America the Beautiful series feature the same obverse portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. The portrait has appeared on circulating quarters (with minor variations) since 1932 and was originally designed by John Flanagan.
Orders for the 2012 Denali National Park America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set may be placed directly with the United States Mint when it becomes available. The US Mint also issues massive five ounce silver coins containing these same designs in both bullion and uncirculated qualities. The Denali Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin made its debut in early November. It is still available from the US Mint, currently at a price point of $229.95.
