As announced last week, the United States Mint will release the 2012 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Set™ tomorrow, November 27, 2012. The eight silver coin set will be available for ordering beginning at Noon (Eastern) for $149.95, plus the US Mint's standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order.
Mintage of the set is limited to just 50,000. A household order limit of just two sets will be in place for the first week of availability with the US Mint planning to re-evaluate the order limit weekly.
The eight coins to be offered in the set include:
- 2012-W American Eagle Silver Proof Coin
- 2012-S Kennedy Half Dollar
- 2012-S El Yunque America the Beautiful Quarter
- 2012-S Chaco Culture America the Beautiful Quarter
- 2012-S Acadia America the Beautiful Quarter
- 2012-S Hawaii Volcanoes America the Beautiful Quarter
- 2012-S Denali America the Beautiful Quarter
- 2012-S Roosevelt Dime
The 2012-W Silver Eagle is struck from one ounce of .999 fine silver at the US Mint's facility in West Point. It is the same proof Silver Eagle that was recently marked as sold-out from the US Mint.
Each of the remaining coins of the set are struck from 90% silver. They were produced to proof quality at the US Mint's facility in San Francisco.
Combining all eight of the coins found in the new product yields a total precious metal content of 2.338 troy ounces of silver. One ounce for the Silver Eagle and the remaining 1.338 ounces for the other seven coins.
Based on the London Fix for Silver for today, November 26, 2012, the Silver Set Melt Value of the eight coins would be $79.68. That London Fix was $34.08 an ounce.
When issued tomorrow at Noon (Eastern), the 2012 United States Mint Limited Edition Silver Proof Set may be ordered directly from the US Mint by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT (6468). Orders may also be placed via the Mint's online store at http://catalog.usmint.gov.
The US Mint indicates shipping of the set will begin in late December.
