Frances Cleveland (First Term) First Spouse Gold Coin
General Coin Information
The 2012 Frances Cleveland (First Term) First Spouse Gold Coin will be released by the US Mint as the second 2012 strike of the First Spouse Gold Coin series. A portrait of former First Lady Frances Cleveland (wife of the 22nd and 24th President of the United States Grover Cleveland) will be featured on the obverse along with an image emblematic of her life on the reverse.
This strike will represent the first term Frances Cleveland served as the first spouse of the United States which ran from 1885–1889. Another strike will be released later in the year to represent her second term which was non-consecutive to the first and ran from 1893–1897. The unique nature of these releases is owed to the fact that her husband, Grover Cleveland, was the only President of the United States to serve two non-consecutive terms. As dictated by the legislation which authorized the coins (Public Law 109-145), both terms will be acknowledged in the first spouse series.
Frances married Grover at the age of 21, a year after he assumed office, and was and is the youngest First Lady ever to serve the nation. She is said to have won over most who met her with her noticeable charm.
The US Mint will release two strikes honoring Frances Cleveland's first term as the spouse of a President - the Frances Cleveland (First Term) First Spouse Gold Proof Coin and the Frances Cleveland (First Term) First Spouse Gold Uncirculated Coin. The two strikes will contain identical obverse and reverse imagery with the only difference being their finish.

The reverse will contain an image emblematic of the life and interests of Frances Cleveland. Also included on the reverse will be the inscriptions of "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "$10", "1/2 OZ.", and ".9999 PURE GOLD.
