Available now from the Perth Mint of Australia are three differently sized 2013 Australian Koala Gold Proof Coins. These three strikes are each composed of 99.99% pure gold with the larger two of the three featured in high relief.
Shown on the reverse of the strikes is a design features a single koala. Sizing of the coins include two ounces, one ounce and one-tenth ounce, each struck to extremely limited mintages.
The 2013 Australian Koala Gold Proof Coins reverse image was designed by artist Tom Vaughan. A Perth Mint description of the image states:
"Each coin's reverse depicts an adult koala sitting on the branch of a eucalyptus tree, surrounded by gum leaves. The design incorporates the inscription AUSTRALIAN KOALA, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the 2013 year-date and the weight and purity of each coin."
This design is the same as offered on the 2013 Koala Silver Bullion Coins released late last year.
On the obverse of the coins is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Obverse inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and the face value of the coins - 200 DOLLARS, 100 DOLLARS or 15 DOLLARS.
The Perth Mint offers the coins as legal tender of Australia under the Australian Currency Act of 1965.
A certificate of authenticity accompanies each coin along with an illustrated shipper. A Perth Mint display case is also included.
The two ounce high relief koala gold coins have a minimum gross weight of 62.215 grams with a diameter of 36.60 mm and a thickness of 6.00mm. Maximum mintage is just 250 coins.
