Perth Mint artist Tom Vaughan designed the reverse image.

On the obverse, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II may be found, also in high relief. Inscriptions on the obverse include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and the face value of 1 DOLLAR.

These coins are struck as legal tender by the Perth Mint. That status is allowed by law under the Australian Currency Act of 1965.
