Available now from the Perth Mint of Australia is the 2013 Australian Kookaburra 1 oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin. The coin is struck from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver to proof quality and features an issue limit of just 9,000.
The release of this coin marks the second annual issue of a high relief kookaburra which is minted with concave surfaces to ensure optimum flow of the designs. This series debuted for the first time in 2012 with that coin quickly achieving a sell-out.
Nathasha Muhl designed the image found on the reverse of the coin. It shows two young kookaburras sitting on a tree branch. Australian bush flowers can be seen behind below the two birds.
Reverse inscriptions include AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA and 2013 1oz 999 SILVER. Also found on the reverse is the Perth Mint's historic 'P' mintmark.
The coins are all struck as legal tender of Australia. Accordingly, the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse of the strikes. Obverse inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA and the legal tender face value of 1 DOLLAR.
The Perth Mint presents each coin in its own black presentation case. An illustrated shipper and a numbered certificate of authenticity is also included.
Specifications of the release include a diameter of 32.60 mm with a maximum thickness of 6.00 mm. The minimum gross weight of each coin is 31.135 grams.
As previously mentioned, the issue limit of the individual coin is set at 9,000. Another 1,000 have been reserved for future product releases giving the strike a maximum mintage of 10,000.
