Struck from five ounces of 99.9% pure silver with a high relief obverse and reverse design, the 2013 Australian Koala 5 oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin is now available from the Perth Mint of Australia.
This release is the first time the Perth Mint has created a koala coin in high relief from five ounces of silver. Maximum mintage of the high relief silver Koala is limited to just 5,000 with the coins only available now for purchase in Australia.
Shown on the high relief reverse is a design of a koala sitting in a branch of a eucalyptus tree as first seen with the release of the 2013 Koala Silver Bullion Coins last year. As is standard with koala coins from the Perth Mint, it has also been featured on other numismatic grade koala coins since those bullion releases such as the affordable 2013 Australian Koala 1/10 Oz Silver Coin.
The reverse design is the work of Perth Mint artist Tom Vaughan. Surrounding the image are the inscriptions of AUSTRALIAN KOALA and 2013 5 oz 999 SILVER.
Each of these coins is struck as legal tender of Australia with a face value of AUS $8. That face value is inscribed on the obverse with 8 DOLLARS which surrounds the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen ELIZABETH II along with the inscriptions of ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA.
The Perth Mint offers each coin in its own display case. The coin and case, along with a numbered certificate of authenticity ships inside an illustrated shipper.
Specifications of the release include five troy ounces of 99.9% pure silver. Minimum gross weight of the release is listed as 155.673 grams. Maximum diameter is 50.60 mm with a maximum thickness of 12.50 mm.
As previously stated, maximum mintage for the release is just 5,000 coins.
