The United States Mint today, May 16, 2013, released the 2013 White Mountain Silver Uncirculated Coin. This release marks the first of the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin™ series to be issued this year, but the sixteenth for the program overall.
Initial pricing of the White Mountain Silver Uncirculated Coin is listed at $179.95, plus the US Mint's standard shipping and handling of $4.95 per order. Maximum mintage for the coin is set at 25,000.
Shown on the reverse of the coin is a design emblematic of White Mountain National Forest located in the state of New Hampshire. The US Mint offers this description for the design which was also featured on a strike of the America the Beautiful Quarter® Program:
"The reverse design depicts Mt. Chocorua, the easternmost peak of the Sandwich Range, framed by birch trees. It is an iconic view of the White Mountain National Forest system lands. Inscriptions are WHITE MOUNTAIN, NEW HAMPSHIRE, 2013, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse was designed and executed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill."
Obverse imagery includes a portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. The portrait is the original work of artist John Flanagan and was first seen on the circulating quarter dollars of 1932. It has appeared on quarters ever since, with slight modifications. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and QUARTER DOLLAR.
The America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins™ are is struck by the US Mint as the numismatic versions of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™. Both feature designs originally created for a third US Mint series, the America the Beautiful Quarters Program.
However, unlike the quarter dollars, the bullion and these uncirculated coins are each struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver. Both also feature the extremely large diameter of three inches.
The White Mountain Silver Uncirculated coins are each enclosed in a capsule and ship along with a presentation case. A Certificate of Authenticity is also included.
