Pricing of the strike is listed at $1054.00 for the proof quality version and $1041.00 for the uncirculated. As is standard with US Mint gold numismatic coins, these prices are subject to change based on market conditions.
Like previous releases of the same series, the Alice Paul First Spouse Gold Coin is struck from one half ounce of .999 fine gold. These strikes feature a legal tender face value of $10.
Coins of the series debuted in 2007 and typically honor the spouses of the former Presidents of the United States. For the Chester Arthur Presidency, Alice Paul was chosen to be featured instead since Arthur served in office without a spouse.
Paul was born during Arthur's Presidential term linking his administration to the famous Suffragist. She would go on to become one of the leading strategists for the movement that led to the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution which prohibits any US citizen from being denied the right to vote based on gender.
The US Mint describes the coin's designs with:
"In addition to Paul's portrait, the coin's obverse includes the inscriptions ALICE PAUL, IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, 2012 and SUFFRAGIST. The coin's reverse depicts a participant marching in the suffrage parade, holding the flag and wearing a banner that says VOTES FOR WOMEN. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, $10, ½ OZ. and .9999 FINE GOLD."
Susan Gamble designed the obverse portrait which was sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse was designed and sculpted by Hemphill.
Maximum mintage for the coin is listed as 13,000. This mintage if 2,000 lower than the mintage cap in place on the 2011-dated First Spouse Gold Coins. However, none of those releases came close to reaching that cap.
