The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a new silver dollar emblematic of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. The War of 1812 Bicentennial Proof Silver Dollar is the first collector coin issued by the Mint this year.
Each coin is struck from 99.99% pure silver and features a maximum mintage of 40,000. The proof coin will also be released as part of two proof sets issued by the Mint. The Royal Canadian Mint has released two new strikes celebrating the Year of the Dragon taken from the Chinese Zodiac. Both the Year of the Dragon 1/10 Oz Gold Coin and the Year of the Dragon 1/2 Oz Silver Coin showcase the same reverse design of the mythical creature and are available now for ordering.
Use of the Chinese Zodiac dates back millennia and features twelve creatures each representing a different year of a twelve year cycle that repeats. Of those creatures, the dragon is believed to be the mightiest and occupies the fifth position of the Zodiac. [click to continue…]
The Perth Mint of Australia has issued three new gold coins as part of the year long celebration of the Year of the Dragon. These new 2012 Year of the Dragon Gold Coins depict the Chinese characters of Fu, Lu and Shou on their reverse, symbolizing the concepts of Prosperity, Longevity and Success.
Each of the three coins is struck from 1/5 ounce of 99.99% pure gold. The Prosperity Gold Coin is available individually or in a two or three coin set. The Perth Mint of Australia released the 2012 Australian Platypus Platinum Bullion Coin on December 5, 2011. The strike contains one ounce of 99.95% pure platinum and features a diameter of 32.60 mm.
This new platinum release marks the second time the Perth has issued a coin in the platypus series. The first Platypus Platinum Coin debuted earlier this year with a 2011-dated strike with indications by the Perth that the series will continue into the foreseeable future. [click to continue…]
The Royal Canadian Mint will be adding another precious metal coin featuring the elusive cougar when its begins issuing the Cougar 0.5 g Gold Coin later this month. The strike is composed of half a gram of 99.99% pure gold and features a diameter of 11mm.
Shown on the reverse of the strike is an extremely detailed engraved image of a cougar. The massive cat is depicted with its mouth open as if to announce its presence or perhaps attack its prey. [click to continue…]
Scheduled for release earlier this month, the Perth Mint of Australia has struck two new coins to mark the 60th Anniversary of the ascension of Queen Elizabeth II of England to the throne. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Coins mark the occasion with extremely limited mintages and are available now directly from the Perth.
The Diamond Jubilee 2 oz Gold Proof Coin includes a diamond in the reverse design and features a maximum mintage of only 60 coins. The Diamond Jubilee 1 Oz Silver Proof Coin will be available in greater (albeit still relatively low) quantities with a maximum mintage of 7,500.

Both contain the same image of a Mareeba Rock-wallaby, but feature different finishes resulting in a unique design on each version.
Each is struck from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver and are issued as some of the first 2012-dated releases from the Royal Australian Mint (RAM).
