The United States Mint today will release three new products associated with the Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coin. Available beginning at Noon, Eastern, on April 5, 2012 are 25-coin rolls of the new strike as well as 250 and 500-coin boxes of the latest issue in the series.
The Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coin is the first strike to be issued in 2012 as part of the Presidential $1 Coin Program. It also marks the twenty-first to be issued in the series as a whole which dates back to 2007.
Under the series, the former Presidents of the United States are honored on the coins with a portrait. Coins of the series are released in the order in which they served with the George Washington Presidential $1 Coin appearing first.
Chester Arthur was the twenty-first US President. He served from 1881-1885 and was vice president before assuming the highest office after the death of the previous President, James Garfield.
These strikes also mark a new era for the Presidential $1 Coin series. The program was originally designed for circulation, but a Treasury Department order late last year ended circulating production as stockpiles of the series were ending up in Federal Reserve vaults.
Accordingly, these Arthur Coins are the first in the series to not initially be available from local banking institutions. As such, the US Mint has expanded its product offerings in an attempt to satisfy consumer demand.
This includes a 250 and a 500-coin box of the Chester A. Arthur Presidential $1 Coins. Buyers will have the choice of boxes containing circulation quality strikes from the US Mint's facility in Philadelphia or the US Mint's facility in San Francisco.
The 250-coin boxes will be sold for $279.95 with the 500-coin boxes offered for $550.95. The Mint's standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order applies in addition to an extra $7.95 charge for shipping on each 500-coin box ordered.
Also available beginning at Noon are 25-coin rolls of the Chester Arthur Coins. Priced at $32.95, these rolls contain 25 circulation quality Arthur Coins from the buyer's choice of the Philadelphia facility or the Denver facility.
Orders for the new products may be made by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468) or via the Mint's website store at catalog.usmint.gov.
