Chaco Culture National Historical Park Quarters struck to circulation quality at the US Mint's facility in San Francisco are now available for ordering from the Mint. The 2012-S Chaco Culture Quarters were released today, July 12, 2012, in both bags and rolls.

One 40-coin roll of the Chaco Culture Quarters is available for $18.95. 100-Coin bags of the strikes are being sold for $34.95.

These strikes are a somewhat special product from the US Mint because the San Francisco facility is not typically responsible for striking circulating coinage. Instead, its typically produces numismatic grade proof coins for the Mint.

This line-up of circulating quality quarters was just recently added to the Mint's line-up. The first such release occurred just last month when the 2012-S El Yunque Quarters were issued. As a means of explanation for the new series of products, US Mint officials had this statement:

"We were looking for a new numismatic product with an "S" mark," United States Mint Deputy Director Richard A. Peterson said.  "Feedback we had received from customers was that there was always great anticipation with products bearing the ‘S' mint mark.  We also felt that an ‘S' mint mark on America the Beautiful Quarters® coins would bring some additional visibility to the program."

Located on the obverse of each coin is a portrait of George Washington, by John Flanagan. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, QUARTER DOLLAR, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.

Shown on the reverse is the design emblematic of Chaco Culture National Historical Park located in the state of New Mexico. The US Mint describes this design with:

"The reverse ...illustrates a view to the west of two elevated kivas that are part of the Chetro Ketl Complex.  The design also shows the north wall of Chetro Ketl and the north wall of the canyon.  Inscriptions are CHACO CULTURE, NEW MEXICO, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.  The reverse was designed by AIP Master Designer Donna Weaver and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill."

Orders for either the bags or rolls of the 2012-S Chaco Culture Quarters may be placed on the US Mint's website of and by phone at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). The standard $4.95 shipping and handling fee applies to all domestic orders.

  1. DMPL in both the El Yunque and Chaco Culture S an Francisco rolls. Also there is doubling in the ear lobe of the Chaco Culture S Quarters, and die extension dimples appear on the reverse incuse letters , and it appears this is a result of hub doubling. You can see two ridges where the hub joins the field.
    Legend has it.
