Grand Canyon 5 oz Silver Uncirculated Coin Available Tomorrow

2010 Grand Canyon 5 oz Silver Uncirculated CoinThe United States Mint will begin selling the 2010 Grand Canyon 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin tomorrow (June 29, 2011) at Noon, Eastern time. Each strike is scheduled to sell for $279.95 plus the Mint's standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order. A household order limit of one coin will be enforced for at least the first week of availability.

This Grand Canyon Silver Coin marks the fourth for the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coin series which debuted earlier this year. However, like the previous three strikes, this one was also minted in 2010 as indicated by the date on the coin.

The US Mint opted to delay the release of the debut year strikes until this year as time constraints and production issues plagued this series and the associated America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin® Program. Solving the initial production issues late in 2010 left the Mint little time to strike sufficient quantities of both the bullion and uncirculated series as well as insure smooth releases of both programs.

As such, the bullion series made their debut in December of 2010 with this uncirculated series not initially appearing until April 28, 2011 when the first strike of the program, the Hot Springs Silver Uncirculated Coin, was first released. It has since been followed by the Yellowstone Silver Uncirculated Coin and the Yosemite Silver Uncirculated Coin, all three of which have sold out.

Both the bullion and uncirculated series are each struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches with the bullion coins intended for investors and the uncirculated coins intended for collectors. Each coin features a reverse design emblematic of a site of national interest.

This Grand Canyon Silver Coin showcases an image of the granaries above the Nankoweap Delta in Marble Canyon near the Colorado River. It was designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill.

Like the previous three coins, these Grand Canyon Coins have a maximum mintage of only 27,000.  Once available, they may be ordered directly from the United States Mint by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468) or on the Mint's website of  http://www.usmint.gov.
