Perth Mint Issues 2011 Transformers Optimus Prime Silver Proof Coin

2011 Transformers Optimus Prime Silver Proof CoinThe Perth Mint of Australia has created a new series of coins sure to be a hit both among collectors as well as action movie fans as it features the fictional characters of the Dreamworks Paramount movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon which will be released into theaters this summer.

One of the coins in the series, and likely to be the most popular, is the Transformers III - Optimus Prime 1 oz. Silver Proof Coin. As the name of the strike indicates, the reverse of the coin contains a colorized  "action shot" of the fabled hero of the series, Optimus Prime.

The Perth describes the hero of the series with this:

"For thousands of years, Optimus Prime and the Autobots travelled through space in search of the AllSpark.  For Optimus Prime, nothing is more important than freedom, and his driving goal is to protect the Universe from the evil of Megatron and his Decepticon forces.  He is one of the most powerful Transformers, but it is his skill, his determination, and his honour, that make him the greatest of all."

Each of these coins is struck from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver with a diameter of 40.60mm. The colorful reverse design showing Optimus Prime was designed by Wade Robinson and includes the Autobot logo along with the inscription of "Transformers" and the Perth Mint's historic 'P' mintmark.

These coins are struck as legal tender of the Government of Tuvalu. As such, the obverse contains the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscriptions of "Queen Elizabeth II," "Tuvalu," "1 Dollar" and "2011."

The Optimus Prime Silver Proof Coins are available now directly from the Perth Mint for AUS $ 104.54 via this affiliate link:
