American Eagle

US Gold and Silver Eagle Bullion CoinsSales of the 2012 American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin and the 2012 American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin will begin on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 according to the United States Mint. On that date, the Mint will begin accepting orders for the bullion Eagles from its network of Authorized Purchasers.

The Authorized Purchasers (APs) are responsible for the distribution of US Mint bullion products. They place bulk orders for the coins from the US Mint based on the market prices of the precious metals they contain plus a small premium to cover the Mint's production costs. Following receipt of the coins, they then resell them to coin and precious metal dealers as well as the public for a slightly larger premium over current market values. [click to continue…]

2011 American Silver Eagle Proof CoinCollectors and gift-givers looking to purchase 2011 American Eagle Silver Proof Coins will have to turn to the secondary market to fulfill their needs as the United States Mint officially declared the strikes sold out last week.  The Proof Silver Eagles apparently reached their maximum mintage forcing the Mint to declare a sell-out on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.

A US Mint weekly sales report released the day before the sell-out was announced placed sales of individual 2011 Proof Silver Eagles at 850,000. An additional 100,000 were struck for and included in the 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set. [click to continue…]

2011 American Silver Eagle Anniversary Set

The United States Mint has started fulfilling orders for the 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set, with some individuals already able to prove they have their sets in hand. Not surprisingly, many of those sets are already appearing on the online auction site eBay as sellers are now able to comply with eBay requirements concerning the Silver Eagle Sets.

eBay listings for the Eagle collections started appearing long before the US Mint even released them. Premiums were realized for most of those sets as potential collectors assumed obtaining them from the Mint might be difficult. [click to continue…]

2011 American Silver Eagle Anniversary Set

Collectors looking on eBay for a 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set may be in luck, despite the fact that the online auction site has apparently chosen to temporarily cancel listings for the sets. Multiple Eagle Sets are still showing on eBay, although clearly not as many as were offered before the "ban" went into effect.

Unfortunately for those looking to buy, the law of supply and demand has forced the price of the available sets up even higher as the available supply has been drastically reduced. Successful closing auction prices for a single set now routinely rise over $700, or more than a $400 increase over what the sets sold for from the US Mint. [click to continue…]

With a release date just a few days away, collectors will undoubtedly be interested to know that the 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set will likely sell for $299.95. That price is listed on the US Mint's product page for the pending debut and is currently subject to change based on updated market conditions.

The announcement of the price answers the speculations of many on what the Mint would be charging for the Silver Eagle Set created to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Eagle program. At nearly $300, the price point is in the range of where most thought it would be considering the fact that the set contains approximately five ounces of .999 fine silver when the strikes included in it are added together. Since Monday, September 26, 2011, sales of several silver numismatic products from the United States Mint have been suspended. The US Mint suspended these silver sales in response to falling precious metal prices in what was seen as an eventual likely price adjustment of the affected items.

The suspension is not the first time the Mint has halted sales of precious metal products in recent months. However, the circumstances surrounding this occurrence are a bit of an anomaly for the Mint. Previous sales suspensions, such as the one occurring earlier this month, were brought about by significant jumps in the pricing of the associated precious metals. [click to continue…]

Many collectors have been anxiously awaiting this release as it marks a return to the series which has not appeared from the US Mint since 2008.
