2012 Maple Leaf Forever Coins (Royal Canadian Mint images)What image could be more emblematic of Canada than the maple leaf? With that in mind, it is not surprising that the Royal Canadian Mint has opted to continue a series that debuted last year featuring designs of the leaf on their reverse.

2012 American Eagle Gold Proof Coin (US Mint images)The United States Mint has released the 2012 American Eagle Gold Proof Coins. These popular strikes were made available to the public for ordering beginning at Noon (Eastern), on Thursday, April 19, 2012.

Issued as part of the 2012 Proof Gold Eagle release are four different sized coins and a 4-coin set. The four individual coins include a one ounce Eagle, a 1/2 Eagle, a 1/4 ounce Eagle and 1/10 ounce Eagle. The four coin set includes the one ounce coin as well as the three fractional Gold Eagles. The 225th anniversary of the United States Marshals Service will be celebrated in 2015 with special gold, silver and clad commemorative coins issued by the United States Mint.

Their release was authorized by Congress with the passage of the United States Marshals Service 225th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Act (H.R. 886). It was signed into law by President Barack Obama on April 2, 2012 as Public Law 112-104.

2012 America Buffalo Gold Proof Coin (US Mint images)

The United States Mint added another numismatic product to availability this week with the release of the 2012 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin. The 24 karat Proof Gold Buffalo went on sale beginning at Noon (Eastern) on Thursday, March 15, 2012.

Initial pricing of the Buffalo Coin was established at $1,960.00 per coin by the US Mint. That price is subject to change, however, based on the Mint's precious metal coin pricing policy.

2012 Discover Australia Gold Proof Coins (Perth Mint images)

The Perth Mint has continued its highly successful series dedicated to the amazing landscapes of Australia and the unique creatures that inhabit it with the release of the 2012 Discover Australia Gold Proof Coins. These strikes follow a series of silver coins released last month showcasing the same creatures with different designs.

The new coins are struck from 99.99% pure gold to proof quality in three different sizes - 1/2 ounce, 1/10 ounce and 1/25 ounce. These strikes are available individually or in five-coin sets containing all five of the same-sized pieces.

Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins

The United States Mint has announced an official launch ceremony to be held for the Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins. Along with that announcement, the US Mint also issued imagery of the actual strikes to replace the line-art images previously released as well as an image of the two-coin proof set

The Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins will officially be launched at 11:00 AM ET on March 5, 2012 at the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Visitor Center, located at 2400 East Fort Avenue in Baltimore, MD. Several official dignitaries are expected to attend including U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, U.S. Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, U.S. Congressman John Sarbanes, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, Fort McHenry NM&HS Supt. Tina Orcutt and United States Mint Chief Counsel Daniel Shaver.

2012 Olympic Team Three-Coin Set (Perth Mint images)The Perth Mint of Australia has released the 2012 Australian Olympic Team Three-Coin Set to commemorate Australia's pending participation in the London 2012 Olympic Games. 2012 US Mint Commemorative CoinsThe United States Mint indicated that new products would be released in 2012 in association with the commemorative coins planned for the year. In addition, the price points of those products as well as the individual coins are now known.

Special commemorative coin packaging or multi-coin sets associated with commemorative strikes  have not been issued by the US Mint since 2009 such as the 2009 Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set. However, that is going to change with the pending 2012 Commemorative Coin releases. [click to continue…]
