As announced when first released, collectors have just three days left to place their orders for the 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set. According to the United States Mint, the set will go off sale on July 5, 2012 at 5 p.m. (ET).
Included as part of the set are two proof quality American Silver Eagles. Both of the coins are struck at the US Mint's facility in San Francisco.
This set was first released for sale to the public on June 7, 2012. Prior to that release, the US Mint announced that an initial mintage cap would not be used for the set.
Instead, orders would be accepted for the product for four weeks beginning at Noon (ET) on June 7, 2012 and running through 5 p.m. (ET) on July 5th. Final mintage for the set would be determined by the number of valid orders received during the ordering window.
The US Mint has been updating order totals for the set on its product page. These updates have been posted around 3PM each weekday with the most recent sales listed at 175,588.
The set is offered for $149.95. The US Mint's standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order applies.
Each set includes the following two coins:
- 2012-S American Silver Eagle Reverse Proof Coin
- 2012-S American Silver Eagle Proof Coin
As previously mentioned, both are struck at the US Mint's facility in San Francisco. Standard annual 2012 Proof Silver Eagles are struck at the US Mint's facility in West Point.
Aside from their unique minting location, the set is also desirable to many collectors because of the special reverse proof Silver Eagle included as part of it. Standard US Mint proof coins feature frosted devices and a mirror-like background. However, the reverse proof coins are opposite with mirror-like devices and a frosted background.
The two coins of the set are presented inside a single display case. A certificate of authenticity is also included.
