The US Mint has increased the order limits on its 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Coin. Previously, a limit of one per household was in place for the coin, as of July 27th, the limit will be increased to 10 per household.
The UHR coin is based on the original Saint-Gaudens design created more than 100 years ago for the Double Eagle. That original design is considered by many to be the most beautiful coin ever produced by the United States.
Unfortunately, minting technology of the early 1900's did not allow for the Ultra High Relief design that Saint-Gaudens had desired. Consequently, the Mint was forced to modify the design.
Advances now allow the Mint to produce the coin with the Ultra High Relief originally called for.
