The United States Mint announced yesterday the release date for the upcoming 2010 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins®. Along with that long-awaited information, the US Mint also announced the maximum mintages for those coins as well as indicated the pending release of collector grade America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coins.
For those chomping at the bit to find out when they can obtain these highly sought after strikes, the America the Beautiful bullion coins will be available for ordering by the Mint's network of authorized purchasers on December 6, 2010. As with all of the bullion products from the Mint, the coins will not be sold directly to the public. Instead, this network obtains the coins in bulk from the Mint, then resells them to the public in smaller quantities for a small premium above the current spot price of the precious metal contained within them.
Maximum mintage on these strikes has been set at 165,000 total spread across all five of the 2010 releases including the 2010 Hot Springs Silver Coin, the 2010 Yellowstone Silver Coin, the 2010 Yosemite Silver Coin, the 2010 Grand Canyon Silver Coin and the 2010 Mount Hood Silver Coin. This equates to only 33,000 per design.
Exciting collectors was the additional announcement that the United States Mint would also be striking collector grade America the Beautiful Silver Coins. This had been hinted at previously by Mint officials, but this amounts to the first confirmation of their availability.
According to the Mint, the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Uncirculated Coins will be issued by the Mint sometime in the first quarter of 2011. However, in keeping with current law, the 2010 dated strikes will all be minted yet this year.
As these are considered numismatic products, the US Mint will be selling these coins directly to the public. The Mint has set a maximum mintage of 135,000 units across all five 2010 designs. This divides up to only 27,000 per release.
More information on these exciting upcoming releases will be posted here on World Mint Coins as it becomes available.
