General Coin Information
Available in a staggering nine different sizes, the Perth Mint has released its 2010 Australian Lunar Gold Tiger Coins. These coins are struck from 99.99% pure gold to the exacting standards worldwide enthusiasts have come to expect from the Perth.
Each coin is guaranteed by the Australian government for its purity and its weight, and each coin is also considered legal tender under the Australian Currency Act of 1965.
The Chinese Lunar Calendar involves 12 different rotating animals with each year linked to ome of those creatures. 2010 is the 'Year of thr Tiger' so appropriately a tiger is featured on the reverse of this year's lunar coins.
Those born in the 'Year of the Tiger' are said to be courageous and natural leaders. While the Perth may be leaders in the industry, they are not courageous enough to assume purchasers will not easily damage the coins, so each one ships in a protective acrylic capsules.
Only the 10 kilo and 1 ounce coins have mintage restrictions of 100 and 30,000 respectively. The remaining coins will be struck to meet demand.

Obverse Design
A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley is surrounded by the inscriptions "Elizabeth II," "Australia," "2010,"9999 Gold," the size and the denomination.
Reverse Design
A highly detailed face of a tiger is shown on the reverse with the inscrptions "Year of the Tiger."
