America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins

One of the most exciting releases to come from the United States Mint is a new series of five ounce .999 fine silver coins known as the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program. Coins issued in the program feature obverse and reverse designs similar to the Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. Of course, since these strikes are composed of five ounces of silver, they are much larger than the quarter dollars.

In fact, they are the largest bullion coins produced by the Mint. Initial law required the strikes to be three inches in diameter. That law has since been changed to allow a smaller diameter but the US Mint has kept the initial three inch specification.

Coins of this program are issued at a rate of five per year with the debut strikes released in 2010. The program will run until 2021 when the last of fifty-six coins to be minted in the series will be issued. Each will feature a different reverse design emblematic of a selected site of national interest.

All of the bullion products of the Mint, like these strikes, are not sold directly to the public by the Mint. Instead, a network of authorized purchasers obtains the strikes in bulk, then resells them to the public in smaller quantities for a small premium above the current spot price of the precious metals contained within them.

The Mint also produces collector grade versions of these coins known as the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins.
