General Coin Information
The 2011 Chickasaw Silver Bullion Coin marks the last 2011 release of the US Mint's America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program. This specific strikes honors Chickasaw National Recreation Area which is located in the state of Oklahoma.
This coin follows four other 2011 strikes of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins including the Gettysburg Silver Bullion Coin, the Glacier Silver Bullion Coin, the Olympic Silver Bullion Coin and the Vicksburg Silver Bullion Coin. Together, these five strikes represent the second year for the series which debuted in 2010 and is scheduled to run until 2021 at a rate of five per year.
Chickasaw National Recreation Area has gone through several federal designations since first established in 1902. At one stage, it was even classified a national park. The varied names it has been known by does not change the fact that the area has offered unique opportunities for all of its visitors throughout the years, however. With almost a quarter of the land covered in water, activities like boating, fishing, canoeing, etc. are extremely popular here.
Initial sales of the Chickasaw Coin started on July 18, 2011 when the US Mint started offering them for sale to its network of authorized purchasers.
Obverse Design
The inscriptions of "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," " LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR" should surround an image of the first President of the United States, George Washington, on the obverse of the coin. This portrait of Washington will be included on the obverse of all of the America the Beautiful Coins and has been included on the quarter dollar since 1932. It was designed by John Flanagan.
Reverse Design
AIP Master Designer Donna Weaver completed the reverse of the Chickasaw coin which was sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz. It showcases the Lincoln Bridge, a favorite scenic spot of Chickasaw which is built out of limestone and was dedicated on the centennial of the birth of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, thus giving it its name.
Edge Inscription
"999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE" is included on the edge of these coins.
