2013 Year of the Snake Gold and Silver Bullion Coins (Perth Mint images)The Perth Mint of Australia has announced that the entire mintage of 2013 Year of the Snake 1 oz Gold Bullion Coins and 2013 Year of the Snake 1 oz Silver Bullion Coins has sold out. This will come as a surprise to many as the coins were only released for sale to the public beginning on September 3, 2012.

In less than two months, the entire mintage of 30,000 one ounce gold coins and 300,000 one ounce silver coins has been accounted for. This quick sell-out is touted as one of the fastest in history coming in behind last year's Year of the Dragon Bullion Coins.

Collectors and investors interested in obtaining the one ounce coins are advised to check with one of the Perth Mint's authorized bullion distributors. Additional strikes may be found through the secondary market.

The gold and silver bullion coins are also still available in several different sizes. For instance, the 2013 Year of the Snake Gold Bullion Coins were initially released in eight different sizes including 10 kilo, 1 kilo, 10 ounce, 2 ounce, 1 ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/10 ounce and 1/20 ounce.  Of the eight, only the 10 kilo and 1 ounce had mintage caps with the rest featuring unlimited mintages.

Seven different sized silver coins were released as part of the series. This includes 10 kilo, 1 kilo, 10 ounce, 5 ounce, 2 ounce, 1 ounce and 1/2 ounce. Of these, only the 10 kilo and 1 ounce had mintage caps in place.

Both the gold and silver bullion coins were originally issued as part of the Perth Mint's Australian Lunar Series II program. Coins of the program feature reverse designs emblematic of one of the twelve creatures found in the Chinese zodiac. The snake is the sixth of those twelve creatures with those born in 2013 said to be under its influence.

Shown on the reverse of the reverse of the gold coins is a single snake curled in a background of grass and bamboo. The silver coin depicts a snake hanging from the branch of a tree.

Additional information one these coins may be found on the Perth Mint's bullion website of www.perthmintbullion.com.
